Taught by Bill Juzwiak. Begins Wednesday, May 9th The molinete is the hub of the wheel of tango. It is like a courtyard from which there are many doors that hold beautiful possibilities. When we first learn the turn, there is fog in the courtyard. As the turn gets more precise in timing, and in the movements of the body, the fog starts to lift, revealing the many doors. As we become experts in the turn, the doors get closer, more accessible. More practice still, and the doors fling wide open. In this class, you will learn, improve, and eventually own the molinete. It is a 5-week session, and each class features 75 minutes of formal instruction and 15 minutes of supervised practice time. It is primarily a partnering class. All students will have some exposure to both the roles of leader and follower, but you will work primarily in the role you sign up for. Please take note of the 2 class options below. Class size is limited and will be balanced for leaders and followers, so please sign up early. The class is taught at the intermediate level. This refers to the level of difficulty of the class, as you can expect to be challenged. The class; however, does not assume any prior tango experience, so it is appropriate for those who are new to tango. It is also a great class for those who consider themselves to be intermediate or above, as many beautiful dancers can find more elegance and fluidity with improved molinetes. This class will also improve your musicality, and your understanding of the structure of both the music and the dance. We will build the turn from the ground up, for men and women, leaders and followers. Then we will use the turn as an entry point for the stylistic variations of tango: sacadas, boleos, ganchos, barridas, colgadas, pasadas, and more. Furthermore, we do not teach any particular style of dance; instead, we teach skills and methods to improve those skills. These skills will be useful for those who would describe themselves as milonguero, salon, nuevo, or any hybrid or personalized style.
