H All,
Just a reminder that Kathryn McDonald will be teaching Chacarera this
afternoon, 4-5PM, before the Source/Kepler practica. During the rest of
the guided practica we will be preparing our dancing for Tango Magic -
see below for more details. I look forward to dancing and playing with
you this afternoon. *Max*
In preparation for Tango Magic at the end of this month, this Saturday
we will have a very special practica with three topics that will
hugely increase your fun and success at the festival classes and
milongas.
1) 4-5 PM Chacarera lesson with Kathryn McDonald!
Chacarera is a flirtatious and fun Argentine folkloric dance that has
been gaining popularity in milongas around the world, as well as
locally in Seattle. It is a dance of seduction, in which the partners
do not touch! The partner dancing the "male" role instead attempts to
attract the attention of the "female" partner through rhythmic foot
stomping ("zapateo") while the partner playing the "female" role
dances in such a way as to distract the "male" from this demanding
task.
For those of you who have not yet had a class with Kathryn, she has a
fun and *hilarious* approach to teaching Chacarera that you will LOVE
and she will have you rocking the Chacarera floor in 30 minutes or
less. So come to learn the dance for the first time, review your
footwork from last month, or pick up some new and awesome Chacarera
stylings. After this lesson you will be ready to join in and be one
of the "cool kids" when Chacarera is played at Tango Magic, as well as
at Mourad's Sunday milonga, "Shusheta," and any other time Chacarera
is played.
2) Prepare for festival milongas - Dancing in Tight Spaces + Navigation Games.
During the guided practica, Kathryn, Lilly, and I will lead tango
games that help to build spatial awareness and cultivate ease of
dancing under crowded floor conditions.
3) Prepare for festival classes - Max's 10-minute "Study Tips" tutorial.
Ever signed up for a festival workshop with a couple of out-of-town
maestros of tango and arrived to find them in the center of a giant
circle of 50 or more people? Ever then wondered, "How the heck am I
going to learn anything under these conditions?" Well, wonder no
more. Come to the practica this Saturday and Max will share tips for
learning within large workshop conditions gleaned from her years of
training in Cognitive Neuroscience as well as some tips from the
Maestros themselves.
