    Hello Tangueros Milongueros:

Sorry I have not been able to write the emails in a long while; DJ John has been sending them. I have been buried in work since June. I am finally starting to see light at the end of the tunnel and what a dark long tunnel it has been.

After 2 Sundays without La Garua it is finally time to see you all again and to share a hug, some laughter and some great dancing. Days are getting dark and cold, and this old bird has to fly south, to defrost in the warmth of a milonguero embrace in Buenos Aires!!! So this will be my last milonga before my trip and I am soooo excited.

I will miss you all and wish I could take you with me, what fun we could have roaming the streets of Buenos Aires together, and going to all my favorite milongas. Maybe some day we will organize a grand trip there and have a blast.

In the meantime I leave you in the hands of our capable and faithful announcer and life time supporter of La Garua, Armando. He and Diana will be in charge of the holiday schedule which they will announce this Sunday. We are ever so grateful to them for stepping in, and working so hard to keep the continuity of La Garua.

So come and bring friends, enemies, students, sympathizers this Sunday. And let’s dance to the great music of DJ John. See you there!!!!

  • La Garua And Muma this Weekend

    Tangueros Milongueros:

This weekend La Garua will have the pleasure of hosting “Muma”, one of the great milonguero teachers from Buenos Aires. She will conduct two workshops each day on Saturday and Sunday, October 23 and 24th. She will also be the guest of honor in our Sunday milonga. The program for her classes is listed online at the usual site: “allseattletango.com”. The workshops will be useful to dancers of all levels sue to the unique, progressive approach she uses when teaching the milonga and the “traspie”.

For those of you who prefer to avoid the Internet, I am attaching two files with the class schedule and a description of who Muma is, (and what she brings to the Pacific NW). There is also a link to several videos that show Muma dancing with her old teaching partner, Dani “Flaco” Garcia, as well as other partners in Buenos Aires. They show her in action, and exemplify the subtle milonguero way, its attention to rhythm and the avoidance of unnecessary shoulder or hip movements. The “cadencia” or swing comes directly from the heart.

Looking forward to seeing you at the workshops and at our Sunday “La Garua”,

    Armando and Griselda

    THEY BRING TANGO BACK

Tango Scent is an evening of exquisite dance and music from Argentina

Eva Lucero & Patricio Touceda lived in Seattle for 5 years and became Seattle’s favorite Tango Dancers until they joined Cirque du Soleil in 2007. Now they bring back the Tango to Seattle with their second creation. Tango Scent.

Tango Scent reflects the endless search for a unique form of expression of the artists. Ever evolving yet faithful to the roots which made Tango a worldwide passion. The show includes 6 of the finest tango dancers in the world. Eva Lucero & Patricio Touceda, Mayte Valdes & Carlos Barrionuevo and Virginia Porrino & Cristian Cisneros perform an amazingly impressive array of dances. The Show is created and directed by Eva & Patricio. With more than 15 years of experience in the field, they performed with the best dance companies and were acclaimed by audiences of Europe, Asia and America. Their first production Tango Retro was a great success and the tickets were sold out during their last appearance.

The live music of the show will be performed by the young talented bandoneon player Emmanuel Trifilio and his partner guitarist Daniel Cortaza.

Tango Scent features an entire cast of artists from Buenos Aires, the cosmopolitan city capital of Argentina that was the birthplace for Tango. Today, Tango has traveled around the world and people can be seen dancing to its music in most cities of all five continents. Tango Scent is a rare opportunity for Seattle audiences to experience live Tango performance of this caliber. Definitely an opportunity not to be missed!

  • Holiday Party This Saturday!

    5:50 pm on November 30, 2009 | 0 Permalink

It’s time to celebrate the season and community this Saturday at the Sixth Annual Seattle Tango Holiday Party, held this year at OmCulture, a great new venue on Lake Union. The holiday party is on Saturday, December 5th, and as usual features a free beginner lesson, a great spread of homemade appetizers and desserts, and a no-charge bar including wine and non-alcoholic beverages.

The venue is fantastic, with a huge, new dance floor, beautiful decorations, and views of the city across the lake.

More information about the event is here: http://www.susdesign.com/tango/

By purchasing tickets in advance on the web site you can save $5. Or, there may be a few volunteer spots remaining if you want to get in for free. Contact me.

I hope you can make it to the party, and please let me know if you have any questions. Please tell all of your friends, especially anyone from out of town who might like to join us that evening.

    Thanks!
    Christopher
