Maxi Cristiani returns to Seattle, February 19-28, 2026
Group lessons schedule (upd 1/8):
Friday, February 20th at Dance Underground (studio B) 340 15th Ave E, Seattle.
5:30pm – 7:00pm Topic: Caminatas – The Art of the Tango Walk. (All levels)
We explore the pleasure, intention, and precision of walking in close embrace. You will work with 10 distinct qualities of the walk, including melodic and rhythmic phrasing, crossed and direct systems, and forward and backward projection. We focus on the function of each walk: when to use it, how it communicates with your partner, and how it serves the music. The goal is not to copy a shape, but to walk with clarity — maintaining your personal character and emotional charge while remaining deeply connected to your partner and the orchestra.
Saturday, February 21st at Lowdown Ballroom 628 11th Ave E, Seattle
2:15pm – 3:45pm Topic: Complete Turns – The Giro part I (Int level)
4:00pm – 5:30pm Topic: Complete Turns – The Giro part II (Int level)
Maxi’s approach to complete turns as elegant, repeatable structures in tango. We explore the giro as a dynamic and expressive tool, not just a sequence. You will work with sophisticated structures using associated and dissociated steps, understanding their function and timing. We focus on different movement motors to achieve fluidity and control in various sequences, refining giros to both the left and right with clarity, balance, and musical intention.
Sunday, February 22nd at Dance Underground studio B 340 15th Ave E, Seattle
2:00pm – 3:30pm Rhythmic/Milonguero dance-system (Int level)
3:30pm – 5:00pm Variations — Dancing La Variación (Int level)
Rhythmic / Milonguero System. This workshop explores the integration of the rhythmic and milonguero systems, and how to combine them with clarity and intention. We work on functionality and timing, using different musical interpretations, including double-time rhythm and syncopation. The focus is on precision, grounded connection, and making rhythmic choices that remain musical, elegant, and deeply connected to your partner.
Variations — Dancing La Variación. In this workshop, you learn how to build your own variations with clarity and musical purpose. We explore the technical and theoretical principles behind their construction, focusing on structure, timing, and intention. You will enrich your dance with elements such as boleos, sacadas, and ganchos, using centrifugal force and speed while maintaining balance, connection, and musical coherence.
